Rebecca Sheeran M.S., CMHC, LMT

Rebecca Sheeran offers a gentle approach to working with emotions through mind and body. She believes working with our thoughts and beliefs is essential, but not without including the body's sensations and nervous system responses. The modalities she relies on are Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy by Dr. Sue Johnson, Somatic Experiencing, and coming soon will be NeuroAffective Touch. Combining these modalities offers relief for the many struggles we face, including traumas, depression, anxiety, attachment wounds, and emotional regulation.

Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy is an attachment-based, experiential, humanistic model of therapy based on Dr. Sue Johnson's work.  Attachment trauma can lead to struggles forming healthy relationships, difficulties with trust, problems regulating emotions, increased susceptibility to stress, social isolation, and a higher risk of developing mental health issues like depression and anxiety. This approach is particularly potent for clients with a history of trauma (abuse or emotional neglect) and emotional disorders.

Somatic Experiencing is a therapeutic approach that works with the body's natural ability to heal itself from trauma and stress. When the body experiences trauma, the nervous system can become stuck in fight, flight, freeze, or fawn. SE is a body-oriented model created by Peter Levine that assists in recovery from PTSD and developmental attachment trauma by softly steering the body to create tolerance for difficult emotions and bodily feelings. https://traumahealing.org/se-101/

NeuroAffective Touch is a method similar to SE but more relationally based that assists in connecting the mind and body, leading to integration. It works with emotional, relational, and developmental deficits.
